Andrea is a registered psychologist with more than 20 years’ experience working with adults experiencing a range of concerns. She offers counselling for anxiety and mood problems, trauma, adjustment to chronic and life-limiting health problems, bereavement and grief, relationships and partnering, workplace issues and career directions, and alcohol, drugs, and other addictive behaviours. Andrea has also worked with families and young people in settings such as behaviour management in schools, domestic violence shelters, and with young people experiencing acquired brain injury. Many people find themselves challenged on the same frontiers as have always existed: life, love, happiness, health, purpose, meaning, faith – all the stuff of human experience. As Maya Angelou once wisely stated, we “may not control all the events that happen to us, but we can decide not to be reduced by them” (Maya Angelou, 1928-2014).
Andrea has a special interest in epigenetics and the neuroscience of psychological problems, and how these interact with events over the lifespan. We are constantly learning about the factors that help or hinder people’s experience of psychological distress, and that there is so much more that can assist people to self-manage healing and recovery.
Andrea has training and experience in a number of evidence-based therapies, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Schema-Focused Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy. She also has experience and certification in a range of specialised assessments and regularly uses feedback measures to check that her approach meets the specific needs of every client.
Andrea is a fully registered psychologist who has held full membership of the Australian Psychological Society since 1997 and been a Board-approved psychology Supervisor since 2004.
As well as her psychology qualifications, Andrea has a PhD in organisational psychology and enjoys working across the spectrum of life experience, including personal and career.
In her spare time, Andrea is an accomplished portrait artist and enjoys reading and playing classical guitar.
